Aunty Answers your question
Dear Auntie,
How does a girl use the morning-after pill?
I think in order to answer this it is best if I first explain exactly what the morning-after pill is for girls who haven’t heard of it before. The morning-after pill is something you can take to prevent pregnancy if you’ve had unprotected sex or if your regular form of contraception has failed. For example, if you have protected sex with a condom but the condom breaks you can take the morning-after pill to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. These pills should only be used in emergencies and shouldn’t be used as your regular form of contraception. The sooner you take the morning-after pill after having unprotected sex the more effective it will be. If you take it after fertilization has already occurred and you’re already pregnant, It won’t do anything—these pills don’t cause miscarriages.
You can buy the morning-after pill in a licensed drug store or get them from a doctor at a health clinic. Ask the pharmacist or doctor to explain how to use them as there are several different kinds. Always make sure you follow the instructions.
Please remember that the morning-after pill is not to be used as a regular form of contraception—it’s for emergencies only. The pill doesn’t protect you from STDs like HIV.
