KNOW THAT SAFETY IS YOUR RIGHT

You have the right to feel safe at all times....

You have the right to feel safe at all times. Do you know what that means? It means that you should be able to make your own choices. Nobody has the right to undermine you, control you or exploit you in any way.

If somebody tries to force you to do something you don’t want to do, or makes you feel unsafe, tell an adult you trust immediately. They can help you find the best way to handle the problem. Remember, the law punishes anyone who threatens you or puts your health and safety at risk.

If someone violates your right to personal safety, know that it is never your fault. The fault lies solely with the person who decided to commit the crime, even if they come up with excuses to try and deflect the blame. There are no acceptable reasons for violence. No matter what form it takes, it’s a crime.

It’s important not to judge anyone because of what may have happened to them or what they might tell us. We all need to support and listen to each other –we’re in this together.
