Sandrine, 14 years old, asks how you know if you’re about to get your period.
Sandrine, you are not the only one with this question. Most people your age ask themselves the same question. If I understood correctly, you’re asking if there are signs that a girl is about to have her period, especially for the first time? Yes, there are signs but again, these signs might differ from one person to another. Your breasts might feel heavy, itchy or sore.
Some of us may experience back pain, fatigue, headaches, abdominal pain, become a bit irritable or simply withdraw from socialising. When you notice these things happening at the same time, there’s a chance you are about to get your period. However, you might not have any of these signs and still get your period. Nevertheless, as each month goes by, you’ll get to know more about yourself and the signs that are unique to you. For instance, if you get a headache before your period, it’s likely your period will always start this way.
Just because you might know when your period is about to happen, doesn’t mean you can skip school. Instead, use this time to ask your parents for sanitary materials like pads and continue your daily activities as usual. If you want to know more about menstruation, write to me at 1019. I am always happy to answer your questions.
